The Mirror Looks In a Mirror
Where is the Original
Beauty is truth's smile when she beholds her own face in a perfect mirror." - Rabindranath Tagore
When the mirror looks in the mirror what does it see?
An infinite stream of mirrors
Reflection upon reflection
But where is the first, the original?

Seemingly lost in this endless replication is the original face
The face you had before your parents were born
The one of which everything else is but a reflection
A true reflection
Accurate to every detail… except one
It is only an image
Like an echo with infinite reverberation
The sound of an unstruck bell

When I look into the face of madness I am mad
When I look into the face of wisdom I am wise
When I look into the face of sadness I am sad
In the tiger I am predator
In the gazelle I am prey
All reflections in endless mirrors
And still, I find no original
Just an empty space
Filled with a universe
The sweetest fragrance but no flower
The enrapture song but no singer
Like the mirror beholding its own reflection
An endless echo
Yet the original remains unseen
